Verse 29: Politicians are Robots!

Hello! Politicians are often accused of giving robotic answers - but politicians in the UK may just have been shown how it’s really done. In a groundbreaking hearing, a robot “gave evidence” to a House of Lords committee. However Ai-Da, described as the ‘world’s first ultra-realistic robot artist’, struggled at times to answer peers’ questions. During the proceedings, the robot needed to be reset, with sunglasses put on her face as "when we reset her, she can sometimes pull quite interesting faces". So that’s why politicians always have a pair of aviators in their pockets!

Among items of note in this issue of Verse; Google reveals what’s next for Cloud AI, an app that could soon diagnose cancer by your voice and volunteers undergo brain scans while being given mind-bending drugs to alter their consciousness.

Verse 23: The War on Retro

Hello there! We were surprised by an announcement made by Japan's digital minister who "declared war" on floppy disks and other retro tech used by the country's bureaucrats. Despite its reputation for innovative high-tech gadgetry, Japan is notorious for clinging to outmoded technology through its office culture. Around 1,900 government procedures still require businesses to use the storage devices, plus CDs and mini-discs. The minister also noted that "I'm looking to get rid of the fax machine, and I still plan to do that". What ‘outdated’ technology can’t you do without?
Among items of note in this issue of Verse; a novel AI algorithm that may be the key to a breakthrough epilepsy treatment, an AI start up erasing call center worker accents and the top 10 emerging AI and ML trends.

Verse 22: History Revealing Itself

Hello there! Scorching, global drought has uncovered lost artifacts around the world including historic relics as water levels recede. These include; rare dinosaur tracks in Texas' Dinosaur Valley State Park, a Spanish 'Stonehenge' (from 5000 BC), over a dozen Nazi ships surfacing on the drying Danube River in Serbia, and a trio of 600 year old Buddhist statues on a formerly submerged island on China's Yangtze River. Then there’s Lake Mead, where officials have so far found five sets of human remains! Has anything interesting been revealed in your local reservoirs?

Verse 21: We’re Finally Legal!

Hello! We came across a study in the journal Nature Food while getting this issue together. It found that five billion people would die in a modern nuclear war between the US and Russia (over half of humanity). It gets better—the vast majority of us wouldn’t die instantly from the blasts. No, we’d perish from a global famine. The last time this seemed a possibility for us, we were watching Knight Rider, trying to master Trivial Pursuit and Ghostbusters was at the movies!

Verse 20: Not Y2K again!?!

Hey! We recently saw various reports that Earth recorded its shortest ever day as 1.59 milliseconds was shaved off the usual 24-hour spin. While we have to admit we didn’t actually notice, it did make us wonder if this will take off a leap second at the end of the year and could potentially create problems for IT systems (think ‘Y2K bug’!). I guess we will have to wait until the end of December to see if we pop our Champagne corks 1.59 milliseconds earlier!

Among items of note in this issue of Verse, a biotech startup wants to copy you into an embryo for organ harvesting, scientists begin a study to see if AI smartwatch data can predict Parkinson’s disease progression and Engineers develop a super-adhesive that maintains its gluing properties across temperatures ranging from -320 degrees to + 400 degrees.

Verse 15: Christmas in June (and a P.S.)

Hello there. Who knew it was Christmas in June? Well not quite, scientists just discovered glue in the berries of mistletoe for use in biomedical applications; a single berry can produce up to 6 feet of a glue-like substance known as viscin. Among other items of note in this issue of Verse, using AI to prevent sports injuries and Quick Draw – like Pictionary except AI guesses your sketch.

We have some exciting news of our own, the Data Licensing Alliance marketplace is open for FREE beta testing, see more and how to get your access code in the FUTURE OF DATA section 👇.

Don’t forget to keep sharing Verse using the social buttons below, or send us a DM with your views to help us continue to grow the Verse community. Thanks again for reading!

~ Dave.

P.S. We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention The U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. It’s a sad day in the U.S. and you’re probably sick of hearing about it, but take note our dear readers, this decision is WAY MORE than just about a woman’s legal right to abortion. This will throw many more privacy rights into question and will definitely overly impact Millenials, Gen Z and future age groups in the U.S.
